The TRANSFER research group, recognized as an emergent group by the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (6 October 2023, code 609), studies the phenomenon of literary translation from a variety of theoretical and practical perspectives. Multilingualism is a defining feature of the nine researchers affiliated with six universities in Spain, Belgium and Colombia who make up this group. TRANSFER members have published scholarship based on original materials in Spanish, English, Catalan, French, Portuguese, Czech and Russian. The group's main lines of research are:
- Translation theory and comparative literature.
- Diachronic, cultural and sociological approaches to the study of literary translation.
- Translation as rewriting and manipulation of the literary text.
- Eco-translatological currents and their application to the analysis of translated literary texts.
- Functional structuralism of the Prague School and functionalist theories of translation.
- Literature, translation and censorship.
- Literary translation and the publishing industry.
TRANSFER's activity is organized around four main areas:
1. An annual lecture series featuring established researchers from Spain and abroad.
2. Seminars and workshops on monographic topics of interest to the group's members, conceived as spaces for the exchange of ideas with faculty and graduate students and as a springboard for future publications and research projects.
3. The organization of academic conferences in collaboration with public institutions or with literary and translation studies associations.
4. The supervision of doctoral dissertations in the fields of literary translation, literary theory and comparative literature.
